The aim of The Inspirational Learning Group is simple; to enable young people to develop key skills for their future world of work that are not easily taught in the classroom. Our diverse portfolio of real-life business challenges and on-line, immersive curricula provide schools with the resources to meet selected Gatsby Benchmarks and ultimately, inspire and motivate students to succeed.
Ten years on from when they were first published, the Gatsby Benchmarks have been updated to ensure that all young people have access to an effective careers provision.
Keep reading to learn how we can help your students prepare for the ever-changing world of work and your school achieve key Gatsby Benchmarks…
Benchmark 1 – A stable careers programme
TILG’s wide range of challenges and curricula can enable your school to embed a programme of careers education that is engaging and motivational.
Our flagship challenge, The National Careers Challenge in partnership with NatWest Thrive, is our real-life business challenge that enables students (in Year 7 to 10) to develop crucial key employability skills, vital for the ever changing world of work. Students are encouraged to work in teams, communicate clearly with each other, identify new products or solutions to real-life business challenges and to confidently pitch their ideas – valuable skills that can otherwise be neglected through the national curriculum.
Our Careers Curriculum and Enterprise Curriculum are the first of their kind. On-line, immersive programmes with remote access to all lessons and resources. Each module comprises of six one-hour lessons, which can be delivered over the course of a day to create a drop-down session or weekly as part of a timetabled curriculum. Fully mapped against Gatsby, Skills Builder and the Careers framework, teachers will be provided with access to fully-resourced, video-led workshops to ensure consistent delivery of their whole in-school careers programme.
Benchmark 2 – Learning from career and labour market information
Both our Careers and Enterprise Curricula fully prepare students for their future careers through identifying pathways and learning from their local labour market. With modules set by some of the UK’s most innovative employers, including NatWest and General Electric, students are fully equipped to make informed decisions about their future world of work.
Benchmark 3 – Addressing the needs of each young person
At The Inspirational Learning Group, we understand the importance of meeting the needs of students at the different stages of their lives.
Alongside, The National Careers Challenge in partnership with NatWest Thrive for students in Year 7 to 10, we also deliver The National Skills Challenge which is aimed at students in Years 12 to 13 and encourages students to develop the skills that they will need for business start-up careers in the future.
For those students who are thinking about their options and progression, our My Perfect University and Destinations programmes introduce students to the world of Higher Education and challenge any misconceptions that students may have about life as an undergraduate.
Our highly-skilled programme creation team and delivery teams also work with schools to modify and adapt challenge deliveries to ensure that challenge deliveries and materials are accessible to all students, including those with additional needs.
Benchmark 4 – Linking curriculum learning to careers
Our Careers Curriculum has been created to ensure that students have the opportunity to learn how their school subjects prepare them for their world of work. Students will identify pathways into employment and learn from their local labour market, complete engaging tasks and activities relevant to their knowledge and experience.
With flexibility and delivery consistency at the forefront of its design and modules dedicated to each year group, students will be fully equipped to make informed decisions about their future world of work. Teachers are provided with access to fully-resourced, video-led workshops to ensure consistent delivery of whole in-school careers programmes, with lessons mapped to curriculum subjects to support the delivery of careers across the curriculum.
Benchmark 5 – Encounters with employers and employees
The National Careers Challenge in partnership with NatWest Thrive is an effective method to ensure that every pupil participates in a meaningful encounter with an employer each academic year.
We were delighted to announce NatWest, Air Products, Wickes and British Airways as the sponsors for the 2024/25 National Careers Challenge. The team have completed over 5,000 visits to schools and worked with over 650,000 young people since 2013. Each year, winning teams from each school attend the National Final events which have been held in prestigious venues including The ICC in Birmingham and Wembley Stadium. Events such as these allow students to engage directly with representatives from our sponsors and other corporate partners.
