The Challenges
The National Careers Challenge in partnership with NatWest offers a dedicated challenge per year group, each aligned to Gatsby Benchmarks. Each challenge is designed in response to that sponsor’s real, business-critical needs and your students will build the skills required for the world of work.
AIR PRODUCTS – HYDROGEN CHALLENGE
Year 7 – KS3
Air Products are proud to task young people to work in teams to develop a promotional campaign that would encourage a local transport firm to adapt their vehicles to hydrogen fuel. They will identify a suitable transport provider before exploring the benefits of ‘Hydrogen for Mobility’ to both the chosen company, the community, and the environment to create a persuasive and engaging marketing campaign.
JCB – MACHINE OF THE FUTURE
Year 8 – KS3
Looking closely at JCB’s main production sectors, the students will design a machine of the future for their chosen sector. They will need to identify the problem that their machine will fix and consider how their machine will support sustainability, before creating a marketing strategy to launch their new machine to JCB customers and clients.
NATWEST – START LOCAL, THINK GLOBAL
Year 9 – KS4
NatWest are committed to helping young entrepreneurs build businesses in their local communities, and developing the skills they will need for business start-up careers in the future. It is this ethos which has inspired this years challenge! In teams young people will work to develop a business idea that is inspired by the skills and heritage of their own local town or city. They will consider how they will promote their new business to the local community, plus how the business could be scaled up in the future both from a promotional and financial point of view.
ATKINSRÉALIS – SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE
Year 10 – KS4
AtkinsRéalis pride themselves on sustainable construction and the development of the skills needed for engineering careers in the future. Combining these key aims the team would like your young people to create a “School of the Future” that is focused on sustainability and community support. They will consider what specialist subjects might be studied at their school of the future. How they will promote their school to local community groups and how they can incorporate community activities into the school. A key consideration should be the building’s sustainability, alongside the inclusion of financial skills for budgeting and incorporation of diversity within their school clothing range.
