Over the last 5 months, The Inspirational Learning Group has engaged with 10 Primary schools in Stoke on Trent, to deliver the Stoke on Trent Primary Enterprise Challenge.
The Stoke on Trent Primary Enterprise Challenge has provided an excellent opportunity for local primary schools to take part in a new and exciting project, fully funded by The Stoke on Trent Opportunity Area fund.
The project was open to Year 5 & 6 students and saw students compete in their teams to develop a brand new mascot for Ryman along with 3 new stationery products to sell alongside the launch of their new mascot. Another task saw each team develop a 30-second advert to promote their mascot and products. The challenge was linked closely to the school curriculum helping to develop literacy and numeracy skills, whilst focussing on developing the core skills required for the world of work including teamwork, communication, problem solving and leadership. The programme has also provided mentoring visits to the schools and the students, helping to provide all students who take part with a meaningful employer encounter which links to the Government’s Careers Strategy and The Gatsby Benchmarks.
The winnings teams from each school were invited to compete at the Stoke on Trent Primary Enterprise Challenge Finals event at Staffordshire University on 25th February. We were blown away by the entrepreneurial spirit shown by all students involved and the finals events highlighted the new skills and confidence that the students had acquired over the course of the projects.
